Jennifer Shirk
for Jackson County Commissioner

Meet Jennifer.

Jennifer lives in the Village of Concord with her husband of 10 years, Nick, their 1-year-old son, and 3 dogs. The Shirk family has deep Michigan roots: Nick is a born-and-raised Michigander, and Jennifer’s family relocated to Michigan more than 20 years ago.

In her current role at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Jennifer collaborates with a team of instructors on developing courses for the Master of Public Health program. Jennifer has a BA in English from the University of Michigan and an MS in Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies from Florida State University. She is nearing the completion of a Master of Social Work degree at the University of Michigan, with a dual focus on Management & Leadership and Policy & Political Social Work.

Jennifer’s dedication to her work in education and social work reflects her commitment to helping all individuals, families, and communities to thrive. As county commissioner, she would ensure that taxpayer dollars are put to good use to address the issues that matter most to our community.

What matters most.

Effectiveness

Fact-based decision making. Bipartisan partnership. Transparency. Making meaningful change.

Community Health

Education. Public safety. Childcare access. Environmental preservation. Building relationships.

Economic Growth

Responsible fiscal policy. Small business development. Building individual wealth. Increased grant funding.

Shirk is here to work.

Jennifer loves spending time in nature and dedicates some of her free time to cleaning up the community. She believes that every individual person can make a difference through small acts of kindness.

In March 2024, Jennifer attended a summit in Washington, D. C. to advocate for the needs of today’s students. Here, Jennifer is addressing a panel at the U.S. Department of Education to advocate for increased funding for childcare for parenting students.
